Living in the Middle East

The Middle East can be a tough environment for our skin. The often warm, dry air can draw out natural moisture from even naturally normal or oily skin. We often find signs of dryness, tightness, flakiness and itchiness, making our skin look dull and lifeless instead of the healthy and luminous look we all want. And then we run into an air conditioned haven that makes the situation for our skin even worse – but you just can’t live without it!

Here are some simple tips to help you protect and nourish your skin in our climate:

  • Moisturize. All year round! Equally important to keep your skin moisturized in both the scorching heat and the extremely dry winter cold! Look for moisturizers that are enriched with shea butter, a natural fruit butter extract known for its moisturizing and nourishing properties for skin and hair.

  • Hydrate. This seems like a simple one but a lot of us are guilty of forgetting to drink water! Especially during the summer months when temperatures are high. This helps you hydrate from within, to maintain your skin’s moisture balance, and allowing your body to function more efficiently at getting rid of toxins, helping you best achieve that radiance!

  • Exfoliate – Gentle exfoliation in the shower helps to remove dead skin cells and reveal a fresher, “newly polished” healthy glow. Try to use a body wash that has nourishing moisturizing ingredients like glycerin in the process. Don’t forget to moisturize afterwards to protect that new layer of skin!

  • Never forget sunscreen. Always apply SPF sunscreen when out in direct sunlight, even in winter. We know that that summer glow is nice, but think long term; exposure to too much sun can not only cause skin to dry out, but is the number one cause of premature ageing, sun spots, and uneven skin tone.

  • Avoid really hot showers. Too much hot water can wash away the protective natural oils your skin produces. Ideally, try lukewarm water followed by a quick burst of cold water. The sudden change in temperature promotes healthy blood circulation and shocks your pores, giving you a smoother skin finish.

  • Eat your fruits and veggies. Just like mama always told you! Choose a diet with plenty of Vitamin A and C to help combat dryness in your skin from within, and delay signs of ageing. Check out foods that feed your skin for a list of foods high in Vitamin A and C.
